If you have read somewhere or heard that the Central Government (Government of India) has imposed a tax on school books. So this news is completely false. Because no such step has been taken by the government. The Press Information Bureau of the Government of India has denied the viral news and said that the Government of India has not taken any such decision. The related news has been investigated by PIB Fact Check and it has been found to be fake.

What is the truth?

Know- After investigating this news, it was found out that this news is fake. PIB Fact Check has tweeted that a message going viral on social media is claiming that the central government has imposed a tax on school books. This claim is fake. There is no tax on school text books.

Several posts on social claim that GST (Goods and Services Tax) is now levied on school books under the new tax regime within the country. We looked for news articles to fact check the knowledge .

We found many websites associated with it. The GST rate on printed material like books and newspapers is zero.
