Booth Level Officer; A Representative of Election Commission at the Grass-Root Level

For enhanced participation of electors in the electoral process and reducing the electoral malpractices, it is essential to improve the quality of electoral registration process and of the electoral rolls. Booth Level Officer (BLO) is a local Government/Semi-Government official, familiar with the local electors and generally a voter in the same polling area who assists in updating the roll using his local knowledge. In fact, BLO is a representative of Election Commission of India (ECI) at the grass-root level who plays a pivotal role in the process of roll revision and collecting actual field information with regard to the roll corresponding to the polling area assigned to him.

Under Section 13B (2) of Representation of People Act, 1950, BLOs are appointed from amongst the officers of the Govt. /Semi Govt. /Local Bodies. Generally, one BLO is responsible for one part of the electoral roll. From August, 2006 the Commission has decided to introduce the concept of appointing BLOs who would be accountable for ensuring the fidelity of electoral roll.+

The ECI introduced this new system of appointing BLOs creating a clear line of accountability for preparation of an error-free electoral roll, making the BLOs its custodian at the polling booth level. Previously, voter-identification slips used to be distributed by the contesting candidates of various political parties and that gave scope for complaints. The preparation of accurate electoral rolls and direct distribution of voter identification slip by the BLOs also boosted voter confidence in the credibility of the election process.

BLO assists eligible citizens to become voters and obtain voter card. BLO provides those different forms for addition, deletion and correction of Electoral Roll entries, carries out physical verification, and gives his/her report to Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) .The BLO interacts with local people/ political parties’ representatives and identifies dead/shifted/duplicate voters to be removed from the electoral roll after due process of law. Google Launches New Feature Titled “Titan Security Key”, Highlighting What Is Known

The “Google” worldwide is always up-to-date with its innovative technology. Now the same way the company has launched a security key.

This security key, launched by Google, will be very helpful in avoiding cyber attacks online. However, currently this facility will be available for cloud retailers in the beginning and will be sold in a short time via Google Store.

Google has introduced the Vector of the Titan Security Key. One device will support Bluetooth and NFC and a USB port will be provided in the device which will be for a computer and a laptop.

According to the report, 85,000 Google employees have survived a phishing attack in 1 year due to the Google Official Security Key. Google Claude’s Product Management Director Jennifer Lee wrote in his blog post, “We have already been advocating the use of the security key for safety, “This can save you from cyber attacks via this”.

This device looks similar to a normal pen drive and is just like the two-step verification. You can buy this key online and the price starts at Rs 1500. You can use this security key, which is linked to the Security Key option in the account. You can also use it with Facebook as well.

For this, there will be two-step verification: –

-This is an extra security feature. There is a need for a PIN even before logging in to the account, not just the password. Only then can you access this key with any device.

This can be done using: –

-Guide Security Key has to be linked with your account. For example, if you have added a security key with Facebook, then after the ID and password you have to apply the Security Key to the computer. So even if someone knows your password, they can not open your account.

SBI Fixed Deposit Interest Rates Hiked By By Up To 10 Bps

The largest public sector lender, State Bank of India (SBI), has hiked the interest rates it offers on fixed deposits by up to 10 basis points. The new interest rates, which are effective from July 30, are applicable on retail deposits below Rs 1 crore.

Under the revised rate structure, the deposits for 1 year to 2 years will now accrue 6.7 percent as against 6.65 percent earlier.

For senior citizens, the new interest rate is 7.2 percent from earlier 7.15 percent earlier.

For investments from 2 years to 3 years, the interest rate has also been revised to 7.3 percent from earlier 7.15 percent.

Meanwhile, shares of SBI jumped as much as 4.4 per cent to Rs 299.25, highest since February 9, on interest rate hike.

More than 18.8 million shares changed hands, compared with the 30-day moving average of 16.2 million. Up to last close, the SBI stock had fallen 7.5 pct, compared with Nifty Bank Index's gain of 8.2 per cent.

Last week, State Bank of India share price rallied over 5 per cent after it expressed expectation to recover half of the assets that turned sour in the initial 12 large bad loan accounts that were identified for bankruptcy resolution.

The stock had gained as much as 5.26 per cent to Rs 285.75 on the BSE, as SBI share price was rallying for last 8 sessions in a row. SBI scrip, however, was down 12.3 per cent this year as of last close, while the broader Nifty remained 5.7 per cent in the same period.

IQ has been found to robustly predict general knowledge scores even after accounting for differences in age, sex, and five factor model personality traits.[8][9][10] In the Cattell-Horn-Carroll theory of intelligence, general knowledge is considered a component of crystallized intelligence. Standardized IQ tests may therefore include measures of general knowledge, such as in the information subtest of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale.

General knowledge is also moderately associated with verbal ability, though only weakly or not at all with numerical and spatial ability.[4] As with crystallized intelligence, general knowledge has been found to increase with age.

Long-term semantic memory

Research has found positive relationships between different domains of knowledge, suggesting that individuals who are highly knowledgeable in a particular domain usually have a good long-term memory for factual information in general. Due to the positive intercorrelations between knowledge domains, individual differences in general knowledge may reflect differences in ability to retrieve information from long-term semantic memory. A general factor of long-term semantic memory could be explained by the existence of an underlying neurophysiological process responsible for retaining information in long-term memory. Individual differences in the efficiency of such processes might explain why all domains of semantic memory appear to be intercorrelated.

Personality

People high in general knowledge tend to be highly open to new experiences and in typical intellectual engagement. The relationship between openness to experience and general knowledge remains robust even when IQ is taken into account. People high in openness may be more motivated to engage in intellectual pursuits that increase their knowledge. Relationships between general knowledge and other five factor model traits tend to be weak and inconsistent. Though one study found that extraversion and neuroticism were negatively correlated with general knowledge, others found that they were unrelated. Inconsistent results have also been found for conscientiousness.[note

Differences

Research has found that on average males tend to score higher than females on tests of overall general knowledge and in most domains of knowledge tested. Males also score higher than females on the information subtest of the WAIS and the WISC, with small to medium effect sizes. In a comparison between male and female university students in 19 domains of academic knowledge, males had greater knowledge in 14 domains, especially in physical science and technology, but also in humanities and civics. A general knowledge composite across all 19 tests showed a male advantage of medium effect size. A study of university students in Northern Ireland found that males scored higher in general knowledge than females, as well as in 12 of 19 specific knowledge domains. Females scored moderately higher than males in medicine and cookery. The authors of this study suggested that this male advantage most likely reflects differences in interests rather than differences in verbal or memory ability. Similar results were found in a study of German high school students.Male advantages in general knowledge are not attributable to differences between males and females in reasoning ability (i.e. fluid intelligence), socio-economic status, or exposure to school course content.Although males appear to have greater general knowledge, there is some evidence that females tend to have an advantage in "autobiographical" knowledge, or memory of personal experiences.While general knowledge is supported by semantic memory, autobiographical knowledge is supported by episodic memory, which is not tested in intelligence tests and tends to be difficult to measure because of the uniquely personal nature of such memories.

Predictor of achievement

A number of studies have assessed whether performance on a general knowledge test can predict achievement in particular areas, namely in academics, proofreading, and creativity.

Academic achievement

General knowledge has been found to predict exam results in a study of British schoolchildren.The study examined cognitive ability and personality predictors of exam performance and found that general knowledge was positively correlated with GCSE English, mathematics, and overall exam results. General knowledge test scores predicted exam results, even after controlling for IQ, five factor model personality traits, and learning styles.

Proofreading

General knowledge has been found to robustly predict proofreading skills in university students. A study found that proofreading had a larger correlation with general knowledge than with general intelligence, verbal reasoning, or openness to experience. In a multiple regression analysis using general knowledge, general intelligence, verbal reasoning, five factor personality traits, and learning styles as predictors, only general knowledge was a significant predictor.

Creativity

General knowledge has been found to have weak associations with measures of creativity.[16] In a study examining contributions of personality and intelligence to creativity, general knowledge was positively correlated with tests of divergent thinking, but was unrelated to a biographical measure of creative achievement, self-rated creativity, or a composite measure of creativity. The relationship between general knowledge and divergent thinking became non-significant when controlling for fluid intelligence.

Game shows and quizzes

Many game shows use general knowledge questions. Game shows such as Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and Fifteen to One centre their questions on general knowledge, while others shows focus questions more on specific subjects. Some shows ask questions both on specific subjects and on general knowledge, including Eggheads and Mastermind. In Mastermind, contestants choose their own "specialist subject" before answering general knowledge questions, whereas in Eggheads the subjects are chosen at random.

The government has made major changes in the size of the houses under the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme. The carpet area of the MIG-I and MIG-II categories of the Middle Income Group has been increased. Area in MIG-I has been increased from 120 sqm to 160 sqm. On the other hand, the housing area of MIG II has been increased from 150 sqm to 200 sqm. MIG-I earns between 6 and 12 lakhs annually and MIG-11 gets loans for home earning between 12 to 18 lakhs.

The government’s decision to benefit from subsidies will also be effective from 1 January 2017. That is, if you have purchased a house after January 1, 2017 and bought it in the increased carpet area, you will get the benefit of subsidy under Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana. The government has also informed that till June 11, subsidies of Rs 736 crore have been given to the people.
