The Gujarat Government is mulling over linking public distribution system with
Aadhaar cards or to introduce one-time password system to bar coded ration cards.

The Aadhaar card linking to Ration Card project has already been started in various states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh (UP), West Bengal and Bihar.

Ration cards are used by many households to get the food grains and fuel at a subsidized rate. It also serves as a proof of identity and address like other documents such as passport and PAN cards.

Aadhaar cards were introduced with the motto of “single identity” concept. Government of India now has made plans to link aadhaar card to ration card.

The process is now started in some parts of the country and will soon be launched in all regions.Updating aadhaar card details to Ration Card, LPG connection & Bank account are now mandatory. Online Linking of aadhaar & ration card will make this whole process fast and easy.

Explaining the modus operandi, Crime Branch Inspector BN Dave said, "The state government had in April 2016 launched the Annapurna Yojana under the National Food Security Act-2013. Fair price shops, renamed as Pandit Deendayal grahak bhandar, were computerised so that subsidised food items reached the actual beneficiaries."
