new Delhi. The Modi government is giving great relief to the Ration Card holders. Now he will not be forced to buy ration from any one shop, he will be able to change the shop whenever he wants. This will also prevent the shopkeeper's arbitrariness. The Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Ram Vilas Paswan informed about this new scheme.
Paswan said that 82 percent ration cards from all over the country are connected to the base and 2.95 lakhs PoS machines have been installed on ration shops so that the ration process can be established smoothly and prevent theft. About 2.75 crore fake and illegal ration cards have been removed, which will result in saving of food subsidy of Rs. 17,500 crores per year. Paswan said that the central government is working on the portability of the public distribution system and it will gradually expand. He said that after the implementation of portability in the public distribution system, the beneficiaries will not be compelled to take ration from any particular reasonable rate shop. Addressing the first meeting of the Chairman of the Food Commission from States and Union Territories, Paswan said that after the portability of the public distribution is implemented, the beneficiary will not be obliged to take any ration from any particular fair shop, To be free from any reasonable rate shop, it will be free. Paswan said that while the State Food Commission has not been constituted or partially formed, he will write a letter to the Chief Ministers of those states and Union Territories. The Union Minister informed that so far State Food Commission has been set up in 20 states and Union Territories. States should take responsibility for establishing State Food Commission and providing adequate freedom for its work. The Union Minister assured that if necessary, the central government will extend necessary cooperation in the state and union territories. This was the first national level meeting between the Chairman of the Food Commission of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and State or Union Territories.
