India Post releases Coffee scented stamps
On 23 April 2017 “The India Post”has released a Commemorative Postage Stamp on Coffee as bring aFragrance Stamp in Bengaluru.
Key Points:
i. The stamp was released by Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Minister of State for Communications Manoj Sinha.
ii. India is a major producer of coffee and specialized flavours of the beverage bean.
iii. Nirmala Sitharaman mentioned that such cross coordination between the Coffee and Postal Departments would go a long way in promoting coffee
iv. Nirmala Sitharamanhas released the stamp and printed 1 lakh stamps in the denomination of Rs 100.
v. After the date of its release these fragrance stamps will be available for sale at Bengaluru GPO, Mysuru, Mangaluru and Belgaum Philately Bureaus and other head post offices in the state, news...
Andhra Pradesh sets up welfare board for transgenders
Andhra Pradesh has now established a welfare board for transgender persons in the state.
Key Points:
i. Andhra Pradesh has launched Hijra Transgender Welfare Board at the Sri Venkateshwara University in Tirupati.
ii. The welfare board will be run by direct democracy by the community, with special voting rights for the minorities.
iii. The move was welcomed by the Trans community in Andhra.
iv. Rachana Mudraboyini, transgender rights activist who was a part of the inauguration ceremony.
v. To help the members of the transgender community and have access to the government welfare schemes.
vi. Other states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala and West Bengal have set up welfare boards and policies for transgender persons.
vii. This is the first time that Andhra has formulated a policy to help transgender persons get education and jobs, and also provide economic assistance to them.
